    Exposed Concrete

    Exposing Concrete

Exposing concrete involves removing the top layer to reveal the aggregate beneath, creating a textured and visually appealing surface. It's often preferred over broomed concrete for its enhanced aesthetic appeal and the ability to showcase the natural beauty of the aggregates, adding depth and character to the finished product.

    With the possibility of customizing:

    • Integral Color (colored dyes added directly into concrete mixer),

    In combination with choosing your:

    • Aggregate Colors (colors of rock in your concrete mix),
    • Exposing Depth (how much of the top layer is removed & how much aggregate shows)

Customers can also choose from the following:

    • Glow-Stone Additions (concrete that glows in the dark!)
    • Stamp Pattern Highlights (see below for available patterns)
    • Decorative Boarders (see below for available patterns)

Lastly you have options when it comes to a concrete sealant.

    • Antiquing Sealers & Stains (this includes a number of tinting colors)
    • Customers Choice of Gloss Index (matte, semi-gloss, or high-gloss)

Exposed concrete offers a unique blend of raw beauty and contemporary elegance, making it a popular choice for both indoor and outdoor applications. By revealing the natural textures and colors of the aggregates within the concrete mix, exposed concrete adds depth and character to any surface!

Stamped concrete is a type of decorative concrete that is patterned or textured to resemble materials like brick, slate, stone, tile, or wood. It's achieved by pressing molds into freshly poured concrete to create the desired design.

Stamped concrete is highly durable when installed and maintained properly. It can withstand heavy foot traffic and vehicular loads. Proper sealing and occasional maintenance can help prolong its lifespan.

Stamped concrete offers various benefits, including cost-effectiveness compared to natural stone or brick, versatility in design options, low maintenance requirements, and the ability to customize colors and patterns to suit any aesthetic.

Exposed aggregate concrete is another type of decorative concrete where the surface is treated to reveal the natural texture and beauty of the aggregates (such as gravel, stones, pebbles) within the concrete mix. After pouring, the surface is washed or chemically treated to expose the aggregates.

While exposed aggregate concrete can provide good traction due to the exposed stones, the smoothness and slipperiness depend on the size and type of aggregates used. Generally, smaller aggregates and a rougher surface texture offer better slip resistance.

With proper installation and maintenance, decorative concrete, including stamped and exposed concrete, can last for decades. Factors such as climate, usage, and maintenance routines can affect its lifespan.

Yes, decorative concrete can be repaired and resurfaced if it experiences minor damage or wear over time. Repair methods may include patching, resealing, or overlaying with a new decorative layer. However, extensive damage may require more extensive repairs or replacement.

To protect and maintain your stamped or exposed concrete, follow these guidelines:

      1. Seal Regularly: Apply a high-quality concrete sealer every 1-3 years to protect the surface from stains, moisture penetration, and UV damage. Choose a sealer appropriate for your specific type of decorative concrete.
      2. Clean Spills Promptly: Promptly clean up any spills, especially acidic substances like citrus juice or vinegar, as they can stain the concrete if left unattended.
      3. Regular Cleaning: Sweep or use a leaf blower to remove debris regularly. For deeper cleaning, use a mild detergent and water solution or a concrete cleaner, following the manufacturer's instructions.
      4. Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Avoid using harsh chemicals or de-icing salts on the surface, as they can damage the sealer and the concrete itself. Opt for non-corrosive alternatives.
      5. Prevent Water Accumulation: Ensure proper drainage to prevent water from pooling on the surface, especially in areas with stamped patterns, as standing water can degrade the sealer and cause discoloration.
      6. Protect from Heavy Objects: Use furniture pads or coasters under heavy objects to prevent them from scratching or gouging the surface.
      7. Repair Damage Promptly: Address any cracks or chips promptly to prevent them from worsening. Clean the damaged area, fill it with an appropriate concrete patching compound, and blend it in with the surrounding surface.
      8. Regular Inspections: Periodically inspect the surface for signs of wear, damage, or deterioration. Early detection allows for timely repairs, preserving the integrity and appearance of the decorative concrete.
